I know that Rob asked if anyone else was cooking, but is anyone planning on coming out and just walking around?

Thats what I did last year and it was alot of fun.

And remember, it's all for a good cause!!!

I'm afraid that due to spiking gas prices and other things, that I will not be able to harass, I mean help.... ;), Rob and Chuck for the cookoff!
I know they will do great and learn alot. They probably don't need my crazy self there anyways!

I was looking forward to finally meeting you Laura and I know that Ron was as well. With the gas prices I cant blame ya and we understand. On top of the gas prices, I wonder if you may even get into some areas that were affected by Ike.

Anyway I hope to get some pics and share them.

Don't worry Chuck.. I plan on organizing a Texasbbqforum get-to-gether next spring, and I will be there, even if I have to hitchhike from some burly hells angel biker.....even he will be glad to get rid of me!!

All right, so everyone knows, I'm bailing on the competition. I had to work all day yesterday, so today was the day to get everything ready. I spent the entire day covering the Metroplex, buying supplies, getting water jugs, stuff like that. I got home and Karen told me "You know, you don't look like you're having fun. You *can* back out, you know?" After torquing her off with a response and bulling ahead, I realized she was right. I was rushing to get supplies, rushing to get ready, etc. No time to enjoy the journey. Not to mention I know I'd regret putting my body through the stress later.

Anyway, I still plan on being out there, but as an observer. I hope to see several folks there.

Well Laura... You might still be able to be a part of our first comp after all! Like Rob said, we arent gonna be able to make this one.

Good luck Ken... I think that you are the only other one from TBBF to compete in this one. I'll be walking around tasting and visiting tomorrow afternoon so I'll see ya there...

Waiting to hear how Ken did.

I know the guys on the fishing forum had a great time. They finished 3rd in brisket. Not sure about anything else.

Here is a link to their thread about the cookoff. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubb ... /2661540/1

Also here is a link (taken from that thread) of a slide show. They had a really cool setup. Lots of pics, but worth a peek. Just like I saw last year, lots of folks in wheelchairs and every one of them was smiling and having a blast! http://share.shutterfly.com/view/flashS ... Wzhm4ZsnEA

Already thinking about next year!
