... can I find a list of future BBQ cookoffs in my area? Don't care if they are sanctioned or not.

Try looking here.

Texas Gulf Coast BBQ Cookers Association

If not they probably can point you in the right direction.

:goof:

I'm ready for next year!!!

Something that I have thought about doing for awhile is getting something set up with the chamber of commerce here in town. We have a nice park next to the lake, but we don't really have any community events other than Christmas Fireworks to Music. Thats a fun time, but thats all it is. an hour long event.

Are you afiliated with a Church or club that has a one day doing? Try putting together a small back yard event in conjunction with their event. Maybe a Kids Q.

Even if you don't get a lot of entries, nurture it well, give everyone that attends a good time, it will grow. I think, maybe, the first time you should limit the amount of entries.

Maybe try the local butcher or meat market. Maybe they may be willing to hold a small backyard event in their parking lot. Get them to sell the contest meat to the cooks at cost (or small mark up) for PR. I'm sure the local newspapers would put a write up about it and maybe run some entry forms for free.

Just a thought, maybe you could talk some local garage bands into providing music for free.

I think CopKid was looking into doing the same thing.

Good ideas BFD. I have spoken to Laura about that awhile back and exchanged a few ideas.

Speaking of that Laura, where are you at on that idea? Any progress?
