Unsanctioned cook-offs
How does everyone find out about unsanctioned cook-offs? I look on the IBCA and the lone star BBQ website for sanctioned ones but wondering another good place to look, thanks!

Word of mouth, or facebook flyers that friends share. I have never cooked an unsanctioned event. I doubt I ever will.

Last one I ever did,I found out the chicken winner stuffed cheese in the chicken. That is why they are called Bubba Ques.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

It was nice to meet you this weekend (I was Randy, came over with with Ed and Tim Saturday evening) and you did well! Most of the ones in our area (I live in McKinney, actually) are in the spring and late summer to early fall. I've actually had great luck at unsanctioned cooks as long as they were run by people who had a clue and modeled after one of the major sanctioning bodies. It's the ones that are put together by someone who's never even seen a comp before and has no idea (nor care, usually) about standards, rules, structure, etc, where it just ends up a cluster...lol. My style of cooking is a KCBS style, so I hope that there are more of those filtering in soon. I do well in those.

Thanks Randy! It was nice to meet you too, if you hear any locally the next few months let me know, doesnt seem like there are any IBCA or Lonestar ones close until around febuary. Do they do KCBS in the DFW area?

Yeah, I've been looking around for some too. I'm on the fence about joining kcbs because I can't find answers to questions I have,.. and the CTBA seems cool, but again,.. there is a lack of info. So I keep researching. I would appreciate any news of comps you guys run across !
