Re: Meridian 2014
Went to Meridian many moons ago. Been there done that. Scratched off the bucket list. No need to go again. Might be good payouts but they could be a whole lot better with the "Cookers Cash" that is generated. Too many other great cooks to attend without the drama IMHO.

Re: Meridian 2014
Meridian is on my bucket list and will stay there for a bit. It is a long haul for Bahama Mama to make which is why I decided against going to the Royal this year, bottom line the funds are not there.
I am fixing to start on a smaller cooker, one that will allow me to make longer runs and be able to meet more folks.
I do wish all the forum members making the trip to Meridian Good Luck.
All the best,
Kevin

Re: Meridian 2014
Good luck to you KAM! Hope to meet you there and BS a little.
Those that imply that meridian is a crapshoot, they should try kcbs cookoffs , they are worse. Gimme a box of meat and let's get to judging. Nothing else belongs in the box. IMO any Cookoff over 60 teams , the quality control goes way down and the odds go way up for "accidental cookers". But all said and done we/those that are fortunate enough to compete in BBQ contests, life is good no matter what!

Re: Meridian 2014
I'm still deciding whether to make the trip or not. I have a local cook-off that is much closer that i was planning on going to before i got this invitation. I went to the Royal last year and had fun, but decided not to make the trip back this year. Its about a 5 hr drive for me to make the haul up to Meridian.

2. Port o Cans? Do they provide? I didnt see anything about them in my packet?
3. Any other must knows for a newbie?

You do not need to arrive Thursday Night. I have arrived at 8am on Friday all 3 years that I have gone and am always 50-58 in line.
This is the best run cook off I have ever been to, Lots of porta potties and they are cleaned several times a day.
Ice is brought around all day long.
Trash cans are never far away and are emptied 3 to 4 times a day
The spaces are very roomy.
They do not take checks on arrival. Cash or cc only
Water is readily avalable
It can and has gotten very cold. Be prepared for hot as well, and rain.
Very flat, grassy spaces.
I look forward to this cook off every year.
