Opted out of llano for a good cause

Postby DaHorns » Sun Jul 01, 2007 12:52 pm

We drove into Llano and found the cookoff site. Decide against a cookoff this weekend, so we drove back to Buchanan, but had a "good idea" on the way there. I thought, I have 3 briskets, 4 racks of spares, 3 chickens, and some sausage. Might as well do something good with it, right? So I got back to the house at Lake Buchanan, dropped the pit off and drove to Marble Falls to find the National Gaurd at Home Depot. I offered them all of the meat and told them I would cook it up and drop it off around lunchtime on Saturday. They were suprised to say the least. So, I cooked it all up for the men and women volunteering in the parking lot of Home Depot in Marble Falls along with some homemade tater salad and some cupcakes. I arrived aroud 1pm on Saturday to a rowsing round of applause. Talk about making a guy feel humble. I carved up the briskets for them laid out the meat and sides, and headed back to the house.

By the time I left HD at 1p they had already served over 600 vehicles filling them with water and "cleaining kits" and were expecting over 1,000 vehicles on Saturday and that many more today. Marble Falls is still without water anc could possibly be that way for weeks. I gave the commander of the group in Marble Falls my number if there was anything else they needed. I felt bad opting out of Llano, but I feel it was a good decision in the long run.

One thing that I saw that was amazing was the outpouring of assistance from HEB. There were HEB water tanker trucks all over town as well as HEB freight trucks full of water and supplies. Im sure there were many others brining in help HEB was very well displayed. Thanks to all who are helping out in the Marble Falls area.

Good move DaHorns and it's probably more rewarding than getting your name called.

I second that one! I would love to see HEB come into the DFW market!
