Next Throw Down

Postby DATsBBQ » Wed Mar 07, 2007 10:29 am

Looking for input here as to the rules. Should we limit the amount of photos/entrys to X amount per contestant? Catagories? Q or anything goes?

Anyone Hawking a Product want to donate a prize or discount? Judging standards? Popular vote or a panel of Judges? Run off?

To get an idea of the number of posters, who plans to enter?

Memorial day is right around the corner and we'd like to have the details worked out well before the contest so every one has a decent amount of advance warning.

I will say that photo size will be limited to 640X480 in a Jpeg format.

I think it should be a Q dish since we are a Q site and I would say 3-5 pics should be plenty.

I would say popular vote. If you do a panel of judges, it would have to be non-competitors.

I like running a Poll for the deciding votes.

If we have enough entries - we could have categories. Most folks will not cook all categories. I will most likely submit one type of BBQ, myself.

Just thinking out loud here. Five Catagories
A. Ribs (EG: Beef/Pork/Lamb/Goat)
b. Big Hunks of Meat (EG: Pork Butt/Chuck/Brisket)
c. Poultry (EG: Chicken/Duck/Turkey/Turducen)
d. Things that once frolicked in water (EG: Fish/Lobster/Crab)
e. Appetizers (EG: Amarrilo Eggs, ABTs, Fatties)

One entry per person per catagory.

This would require 6 polls, 5 to start with and then take the top 2(?) from each catagory and have a run off poll for Throw Down Champion?

Should we establish what it elements voter should look for (color, smoke ring, smell (once the sheriff installs the scratch&sniff module) or have it a free for all? May the poll question should be, "If you could only eat one the entree's, which one would it be?" That's easy, I like easy.

Maybe inplace of the watercritter catagorie. Probally not alot of smoked fish over Memorial Day Weekend. Crabs and mudbugs are probally grilled and not smoked anyway.

This seems like a good idea except..... When you get down to the final 2 in each catagory, you should fly the cooks to Texas to compete in a face to face thrown down  Bobby Flay goes to the Champion for the challenge

Maybe we take the 4 category winners and re-enter them in a "finals" poll, the winner is the MVP? We could hace 4 winners + 1 MVP...

Also, Puff - get ready for a serious tromping.

My only questions is with all these different categories, will there be multiple Throwdown winners? The idea of the throwdown was to smoke somethin up, take photos then decide a winner.
I think we need to keep it simple like OSD said to start then evolve it from there.

That's what I'm thinking. Catagories have "evolved" into:
Ribs (all kinds)
Big Hunks of Meat (butts, briskets, chucks, goats, bear, beef, bison...)
Things with Wings
Any Thing Goes.

One entry per catagory,
Can enter 1,2 3 or all of the catagories.
One photo per entry.
