If you use the trivet it will develop a nice patina like these with the scorch marks.

These actually look too good to use, as I've said before it would make a nice wall mounting. Near the dinner table.

Yes, Yes, Yes.... Use the trivet. Best one I've ever used and the scorch marks do indeed add character.
