Fork with built in thermomoter

Postby Delaware Smoker » Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:19 pm

Hey guys, anyone seen or have one of these? It's a big fork with a built in thermomoter.I looked at them in Wal-Mart,the other nite.I guess you leave it in the meat, after you set the desired temp that you want your meat to cook at.Didn't have a price on them.Any info.,wouild be helpful.
Thanks,Bill

The only fork type thermos that I've seen are more of an instant read design. The ones that I saw at wallymart only had little LED type lights that registered , rare, med-rare, med, well done and not actual temps.

These looked pretty useless to me.

Is this the kind you saw?

James.

I have seen the fork thermos with a digital display, never used one. I don't think you can leave them in the meat. Wouldn't it mess up the plastic handle and electronics?? I always wondered why would I want to put 2 big holes in something I was cooking everytime I took a temp reading. Buy a thermapen and you will never want another insta read thermo. :D They are well worth the money. :D JMHO

Like Jim and James said, it will put two holes for juices to run out every time you use it. I know, I have one from back in the day.

If you don't want to spend the $$ for a thermapen, polder has some less expensive ones, I have also purchased a couple accu-rites (with probes you can leave in for the duration) from Lowes for under $20.

Here is another option. I can't vouch for it as I've never used this one, but I have read some good reviews about it. It even kinda looks like a Thermapen.

I have a couple of those fork things but can't help with experience cause I never trusted them. They never did anything bad to me I just didn't trust them so they are in a box of BBQ stuff unused.

Extech seems to be a large temperature instrument company - seems reputable. Think I'm gonna have to order one and give it try.

$40.25 + Tax.

But hang on, cuz I need to call their cust serv and see why it's taking so long to get a reading. If it's not any faster than this, it's going back.....stand by
