Iowa Bratwurst

Postby bsooner75 » Sun Sep 09, 2018 6:48 pm

Still having to keep it simple. Grilled some Iowa Brats with a little sauerkraut. Wife’s making some noodles and we are calling it dinner.

At least it took my mind off of that crap the Cowboys put out today :) . Temps are nice today too.Image

Oh man, try simmering the Kraut in the beer as well, I bet you'll love it like that !

I used to have a business years ago running a Sabrett Hot Dog Cart from the parking lot of a College in Jersey.Average day was slinging about 150/175 wieners...

When we had this house built here in 2007 the commute was too much after 2 years so I closed it up and started this Ring business we have now.
I duplicated the grub as much as I could to mimic the NYC style Street Corner Cart taste. The one thing I never figured out until the end was the unique taste of the Kraut that came from these vendors.
So one day after about 4 years into the business, I was at my Sabrett supplier in West Orange Nj and the conversation came up about the Kraut just over the bridge in Manhattan.
The guy Lenny that I've gotten to know at the supply company told me to NOT use water in the pan with the Kraut but go with a Good Beer instead.
He said no customers would get drunk or even buzzed from it so not to worry. The pans get hot enough it burns most of the alcohol away before it can be consumed.

So, I went home and tried it and Never looked back.
The Kraut will have its natural water content so don't ring it out, keep it. Just don't add water, get some good beer.

For what its worth, I may not know Briskets and Ribs lol, but I can make a Hot Dog or Brat sing pretty good imho :)

Bratwurst is one of my favorite hotdogs together with Bockwurst. Brings up memories from when I used to travel to Dusseldorf in Germany visiting a shoefair. Always Bratwurst for lunch, served with bread, mustard and an Altbier.

Yours looks great, bet they taste even better.

Simple and perfect! Love the noodle addition as well. Why not spaetzle? That woulda been the finishing touch on a total German pub plate :D
