Garden Bounty and Steak
My tomato plants are bursting. This was today's harvest:
Time for steak and garden tomatoes!

Re: Garden Bounty and Steak
Oh man, I could make a feast alone with those Maters sliced up on some good Texas toast with a simple S & P and Dukes Mayo.
As for that steak, its cooked EXACTLY as I would wish for...
Awesome !

Re: Garden Bounty and Steak
Thanks, all!
The steak was great, but now my wife and are trying to figure out what to do with all of our tomatoes. We have a bumper crop this year.
I love 'em, but I can only eat so much.

Make some homemade tomato sauce, you can never go wrong with that :)Smoking Piney wrote:Thanks, all!

Also, there is nothing better than fresh home made pizza sauce, lots of good recipes out there for these. Take it from someone thats had their fair share of making both :)

You are correct. The maters look great but the steak I want now.

X 2 on the tomato sauce, or just freeze them whole, then when you are ready just make tomato sauce. I make with oregano and basil and garlic and freeze into 2 litre ice cream containers. Then we have it in the winter.

Freeze them whole - no blanching? That sounds too easy!
I also have a bumper crop of basil this year, so this sounds like a great idea!
Thanks, Russ!

Yip, we freeze skin on. When you heat them up to make sauce stick blender sorts the skin out. Just add basil etc. btw we freeze basil as its picked as well. I made pasta last week, I used frozen sauce and basil. Oregano was from our garden and wife puts In a dehydrater. We too had a bumper season of basil. Also cilantro aka here coriander which we also freeze.
