Steak with Mac & Cheese

Postby Professor Bunky » Sat Feb 10, 2018 7:17 pm

We got a nice break in the winter weather here today (it crept above 50 degrees), so we decided to grill a couple of small steaks (strip & shell, I think) on the small gas rig, before the expected rain hit. One steak was marinated, the other had a dry rub. They had been sitting in the freezer for a month or so, as we waited for this opportunity.

We also made a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese, augmented with cream cheese and other good stuff (thanks for the idea, Txdragon). The results were pretty good, even though I overcooked the steaks a little bit:

Looking great on, love the presentation of Mac n cheese, it's not that popular down here but I'm going to give it a try sometime. I currently have cauliflower n cheese in the oven, grandkids fave veges. I'll get your recipe if you have time to post. So I can copy it to I pad.

Cheers

Thanks, everyone.

Russ, we cooked a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese to package directions, except we used butter instead of margarine & whole milk instead of the 2% they called for. Then we added some shredded cheese (a cheese mix from Aldi that's basically cheddar & jack), some cream chesse (a la Txdragon) and a little hot sauce for a bit of spicing up. If I left anything out, SK will chime in.

Ok, y'all answer me this. You ALL seem to like a med rare steak, but with brisket and PP etc you cook it to well and probe tender, so what is the difference??? :dont: :dont: Same protein, just a different cooking method :banghead: :banghead: :dont: :dont: :deadhorse: :deadhorse:

Speaking for myself, I cook steak Rare because I like the taste that way. That red stuff that runs out is not blood, it's pot liquor :D As far as Briskets are concerned, we never got along anyhow. :banghead:

Think I'll quick defrost a steak for Lunch "thanks for reminding me" :salut:
