B&B Competition Char-Logs

Any of you guys tried these? I used them yesterday as my coal base in Blue. I was thinking the uniform shape may be better than sifting through lump looking for like size pieces.

Initial thought. Jury is still out but I think I still prefer the B&B Lump.

Again, this is for only one use in my insulated cabinet. I topped it with hickory chunks.

Seemed a little slow to light with lots of dirty smoke.

After the coals lit the smoke thinned out.

Took longer to get up to temp.

I like to be able to chose my "flavor" of lump. Hickory, oak, Mesquite etc depending on what I'm cooking.

I'll probably try it one more time and will definitely give it a shot with grilling before drawing final conclusions.

When I get home tonight I'll open the fire box and see how much burned and the ash left behind.

Never seen them. They look very interesting for my egg. Awaiting your reviews. Where did you find them, and price please?

At academy. $19.99 a bag compared to the usual $14 (if I remember correctly) for the lump.

Here was the ash pan and logs after a six hour burn. I imagine most of the ash is the Kingsford blue bag I dump on the front to get the fire going. All in all pretty minimal usage. Barely made a dent in the bag.

I need to try again to figure out if the slow start / dirty smoke was a product of new coals lighting or me just rushing things.

would you say the amount used was equal to the lump? i know it's hard to think that yet what with only one cook. but it really intrigues me to see which uses more fuel for the same results.

I feel like it used less than the lump.
