Magical Tandoori Chicken

Postby Sailor Kenshin » Mon May 15, 2017 5:15 pm

When we got a padded mailer yesterday from Texas, with a name I didn't recognize, I figured it must be someone sending a fountain pen to my Fountain Pen Foundling Home. But when I opened the package and inhaled the wonderful aroma, I realized it was....Tandoori spices!

We bought skinless boneless chicken thighs to test it out. Marinated to exact directions, and due to wind, cold and possible rain, plus the lack of a 10,000° tandoor, grilled on the Weber mini-Q propane rig. (Which later caught fire, but I'm told it will all be okay.)

The flavor was completely magnificent. Didn't look half bad either! :D

Plated with some Texmati rice, assorted fruits, and a side salad that we grew almost all ourselves.

Waiting for the grill:

I bet this would be great on lamb, which is hard to find here and $$$, but it was a hit on the chicken. (I may never use white meat again!)

Many thanks to Kiwiruss and OUP! :salut: :chef:

That colour is exactly as it should be,I've never done mine on the Q, but I will be trying it in the summer. It's winter here in 2 weeks so I'm using the inside oven lately. Next time you try it make a small dish called rhaita, pronounced rye ta. Just yoghurt a bit of fine chopped onion a teaspoon sugar and grated cucumber and I also add chopped mint. Mix and serve as a side to the chicken. They both compliment each other, I'm so glad you tried something out of your comfort zone, I'm always experimenting with different cuisines.

 :salut:  NOW I am really excited because I possess half of that Spice Mix from Kiwi Kountry. I picked up some bird boobs just like you did but opted for snow peas sauteed in some kind of way to compliment the Tandoori Chicken. ?Maybe? sautee them in butter, bacon and green own-yawns??????????????????????????????????????? Don't think I'll be able to pull mine off until next week but ?who knows?

Once you have tried and liked it you will be like me and my family, hooked. I honestly believe there is something addictive that keeps you wanting more. There's about 15 different things in the mix.the secret is dry roasting them then grinding in a coffee grinder.

I'm gonna now pronounce Russ----------------------- KIWICLAUSE !!

Santa hit my mailbox up here in the poke a nose ( that was for you Emm    ) a few weeks back with that magic dust as well. I've been burning both ends of the wick lately, but I'll be traveling south this weekend and I might just bring the dust and see what I can whip up on the cast iron...

Ur a kind feller my friend. It's obvious you are goombas ( Italian for good buddies ) if u weren't sure with Emm...

Some think a goomba is a mushroom lol. But in this case it's good friend.
Ask a true italian and they will say good friend in the crime family lol !!

Thanks again Russ

Yup, it was amazing. Next time I might warm some corn chips if we can't find poppadums. If that's how you spell it. It's a dry crackery Indian flatbread we used to like.

Raita! That, too. We actually bought a mint plant for mint juleps. ;)

Oh, and the fire went out and the rig is fine.
