Need advice for cooking a pig in the ground
This spring I'm looking forward to cooking a pig in a pit. We'll probably only do a half of a pig actually. Im trying to figure how much of a hole that I'll need to dig such as deminsions (sp) and such. I've never done this before. I'm not really sure why I want start now, but I figure what the heck. Any advice on seasoning and vegetables also? Any idea on how many people I can look at feeding? I know it'll be a long night but I think it'll be worth it. Thanks in advance for any insight that yall can provide.

Re: Pit cooking advice
How many people will depend on the size of the hog. As for the rest, Honu41 would be the guy to ask those questions of. He specializes in doing hog roasts in the ground and on spits..

Re: Pit cooking advice
You got river rocks and banana leaves? Ain't those things ya use when roasting a pig in the ground.
Best of luck to ya and be sure to take pics of the process... I've never cooked a pig in the ground, but it does sound like a lot of fun!
