It's been a number of years ago but when I did a Texas trip I went to Shiner for the Brewery tour and to Luling to City Market.

After that it was to Lockhart for Smitty's and Kreuz's. The porkchop at Kreuz's was my favorite.

Black's bbq in lockhart (original) or Austin, or Rudy's. both places got me into brisket and blacks got me into beef ribs

I’ve heard outstanding reviews of Pecan Lodge in Dallas. We will be traveling from Tyler to Wichita Falls next Friday so plan on trying it.

Pecan Lodge is good. Cattleack BBQ should be open on Friday and I’d put it above Pecan Lodge. Either way, I’d call ahead and make sure their dining rooms are open. Effen pandemic has some places still closed

You can’t go wrong at PL.

Cattleack is great but only open for lunch on Thursday’s and Fridays and one Saturday per month. The lines get long.

If for some reason you can’t get into Pecan Lodge there is also a Terry Black’s not far from there. Haven’t made it down yet but hear it is good as well.
