beef navel AKA beef belly

Postby fishwater_98 » Mon Jan 28, 2019 2:37 pm

Does anyone on here have any idea where to get beef navel at? I have called half a dozen butcher shops in the Austin area and looked hi and low online as well and I am not having any luck. Its a reasonably popular cut over in Europe, didn't think it would be so hard to find here without personally knowing a butcher you can ask favors from... any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never even heard of that. maybe some of the Slaughter houses in some surrounding rural communities might know. The way Austin is growing you might have to call Johnson City / Fredericksburg; or back toward Rockdale/ College Station. Hey I know, contact Rosenthal Meat at Texas A&M and ask them if they would do some for you.

My BIL get's his at Central Market but did have to ask for it. Not sure if they order it in or are able to butcher it there.

Yeah I thought about that, but I know it's gonna a cost a bit more than I'm willing to pay. I love that shop though, they have top quality everything.

You can order it through HEB. I've made some pastrami from it before and it was absolutely phenomenal! It didn't cost much but that was also about 8 years ago. It was 2.85/lb and I got a slab that looked like bacon. Lol

The local carnacerias have them around DFW. Whole & marinated, sliced like tablitas.
