Arstechnica Wants to BBQ :D

Postby rms827 » Mon Sep 03, 2018 6:40 am

Given articles like this and the proliferation of knock off grills I see floating around the last year or so (even Fry's Electronics is carrying grills now), apparently it's "cool" again to grill. Silly hipsters.

Still, this is a pretty good article, even if it is coming from a fairly odd source for grilling tips:

I actually thought it was a pretty good read. It will spark debate, but we all have our ways and thoughts about the way we do things but I think that's a good thing.
Thanks for the link

I thought it was a pretty good read also, just from an unusual source. :D

Salting the meat a few days before though? Well, I know most folks buy into the aged meat thing. If you've every had steak freshly butchered on the farm though... it pretty well kills the whole aged meat idea.

Sometimes the " unusual " source surprises us.

True story ~~ 18 years ago I was working in Jersey at a place that would get Crown Vics, Exploders << not a typo and and 350 Econolines right from the car dealer and in a week they were back on the car carrier headed to NYC as turn key police vehicles.

One day I took a regular 30,85,86,87,87A Bosch Relay to my mothers house to hook it up to a set of auxiliary halogen back up lights on my motorcycle trailer I kept there. I had it in the box on the kitchen table.
My nephew which was all of maybe 5 at the time was visiting grandma saw it and was like hey Unc, do you know how to wire that ???
I was sure he was just being a smart %#! Lol.
So joking, I said Nope...no idea, wanna show me ????

Well, I'm still trying to pick my jaw off of the floor 18 years later !!

No lie, he pulled it out and pointed to the blades and proceeded to tell me which one got constant 12v , which were grounds, which was the " trigger " and which was for the accessory.......
Then he added, that's just one way to use it, it can be wired a few ways depending on what ur trying to do....

Lmao, so yeah, unusual sources sometimes open our eyes.

That was an interesting read. Thanks!

I don't know the magazine but did recognize the ribs web site they talked about.

That was a good article, thanks. You can't beat science. :salut:

I also know the Amazing Ribs site, which has some very good info in it.
Also, I've read ARS Technica before, but not for BBQ info (just for technical & science stuff).
