I too like the color of it. I also brine my chicken over night along with turkey and marinated meats.

Thanks y'all. Did a few things differently that if it were competition. I'd be more careful basting (wouldn't knock so much rub off) and I'd wrap the wing tips to prevent burning. But it was worth the effort. If for no other reason than to reiterate that I need more practice before the cook off!
