Rudy's BBQ Sause

Postby wilded » Sat Oct 20, 2007 12:57 pm

Has anyone ever come up with the recipe for this sauce? I know not everybody likes it but my girls do and you know how Dads are supposed to be able to make anything. I have gotten very close but something is still not right. Thanks, ET

I just remember Rudy's sauce (sp) as being a typical Texas style sauce, maybe like a Cattleman's variation. Guess I'd have to try it again. My favorite Texas style sauce is outta KC Gates, but I like Stubbs too.

Stubb's in the stores here. Haven't heard of Rudy's. I checked my "clone recipe" sites and came up with nada.

When Rudys first opened in Leon Springs, the sauce ingrediants were listed plainly on the lable. Thats no longer the case. However, I was able to clone the sauce. Now if I can just remember where i put that reciepe???

It is my favorite sauce. Its just easyer to buy it than make it

I think that it is spicier and too black-peppery to be a typical Texas table sauce. It's more like a basting sauce in a bottle.

Rudy's Sause is one of the best sauses I have ever tryed. Will drink straight out of the bottle. They also sell their beef and turkey rubs, very good also. I have a brother inlaw who was a pit master and manager for Rudy's. He couldn't even find out how it was made.

It's a TX. thing. Rudy's Country store & BBQ is a small restaurant chain wit some pretty good "Q".

[b]BACKWOODS[b] you can always buy a few bottles and re bottle it, or Stop in at lunch and take a pic of the label with the phone cam of the ingredients.

Ok. SixGunsGal found the recipe

Copycat Rudys BBQ sauce (original, before it changed)

1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 1/2 TB spoons of vinegar (white)
2 TB spoons worchestershire sauce
1/4 cup Lemon juice (2 lemons)
1 ts garlic powder
1 ts course black pepper
1/4 ts comino
1/8 ts cayenne pepper

Mix all and brink to a low simmer for a few minutes. Cool and serve

(never got around to quantifying last 4 items but this is real close to Rudys original BBQ sauce)
Edit 3-14-2010, added amounts for last 4 items

I haven't made this in years, think I'm gona whip up a batch this weekend. If I get quantities on the other ingredients I will post
