Re: Homemade Ketchup, 1800's style
Nice site, enjoyed it. We made catsup when I was a boy. Ours was kinda chunky. I remember going to the dump and looking for the catsup bottles. I may try one of the tomato recipes. CF
OK, get over it, you lost. God bless America

I never liked the homemade catsup as a boy because of the aromatic spice flavors (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice) but would probably find it more favorable today.
I like this kind of stuff Thanks.

Re: Homemade Ketchup, 1800's style
Many years ago when we were first married my wife and I made catsup. It was really good, but we both swore never again. As I remember it here is how you make catsup:
Take 1/2 bushel of tomatoes cut them up, put them in a large pan with spices, etc. and a little water.
Boil and stir constantly all day long until late in the afternoon. Yield: 2 pints homemade catsup.
Better than store bought, but not worth the effort.

You can make it without raw toms, the flavor is outstanding.
