Babes of Frisco

Postby Papa Tom » Sun Aug 17, 2008 6:45 pm

We tried Babe's of Frisco out today and thought I'd give a short review. While Babes is not really a BBQ joint they do serve smoked chicken so they are close. So if you are wanting to know how the smoked chicken was forget it I didn't order it.

Babes
To start with Babes is hard to find. Directions: Go south on the first road west of the railroad tracks on Main St. It is in the Frisco Heritage museum area but that isn't marked either (probably too new).
And once you get there it is even harder to find the entrance. Hint: Try a gravel path.
Built like a barn on purpose but unlike a barn it smells good.
Menu:
Fried Chicken
Chicken fried steak
Chicken tenders
Smoked chicken
Roast beef.
All served family style with salad, green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, and biscuits.
We had fried chicken and roast both very good as were the sides.
The downside, it is NOISY in there with 50s tunes on the juke box and lots of speakers and lots of people and lots of hard surfaces.
The upside, lots of good food all you can eat but you can't eat it all.

Thanks for the review. Only been to the Babe's in Roanoke, but saw signs for one in Sanger coming down 35 the last couple weekends. Always wondered how the other ones compare to the Roanoke one.

Thanks for the review Papa. I tried the Babes on Denton Hwy...Roanoke maybe? I aint sure them towns all run together in my head. There was a waiting line and it was hot and the porch faced West...I like to burned up. Order the chicken dinner. Was greatly underwhelmed. First thing that made me mad is they cut it funny so to cut back on waste I guess. Anyway you get a hunk of backbone where you expecting a breastes etc. Reminded me of any other kinda deep fried chicken..Church's maybe? Wasnt near as good as my Mama made it in the cast iron skillet with Crisco. The warden could beat the pants off of em too. Sides also not impressive. Maybe I caught em on a bad day but dont think so:)

I've been to Roanoke Babes several times and been to the Burleson twice. Roanoke is much better!

I have never ordered the chicken. Always the chicken fried steaks.

Been to the Roanoke and Carrollton locations. Prefer the Roanoke spot. Chicken is better than average, but we really like the mashed taters and creamed corn...

We fill up on the salad and veggies then bring the chicken home...

We like the one in Carrollton...I get CFS which are always fork tender. The side are good too. Last time the waitresses were doing the hokie-pokie which added to the fun.

BW - anytime the warden needs some chicken eaters - we would be willing to ablidge.

Babes in Granbury sucks!!! The chicken has been smoked over Hickory so long thast it is impossible to eat. The roast beef is good but there is not nearly enough of it.

I agreee with you Papa the noise(music) is way to loud and all the teen age wait staff want to sing and dance more than serving their customers...

The moral is I wont ber going back to that one... :D

My boss lives in Granbury and he said the same exact thing about the chicken.

It's a gimmicky tourist trap in my book. About like some of the steak houses in Amarillo. I just as soon have a Whataburger.

I guess I went at the right time, no loud music or singing waitresses :D

And the food was pretty good too, we had smoked and fried chicken.
