Joints around Kerrville

Postby sparetimetoys » Wed Dec 17, 2014 11:37 pm

My son is coming into town from Portland OR over Christmas. We are taking the Vette down to run the 3 twisted sisters on the 27th. Where would be a good spot to stop between there and Plano for Q. Looking for a good little hole in the wall. We will be stopping in west going and coming home to load up on kolachies

I guess it would have helped if I had said we are going to the Kerrville area for those who don't know what the sisters are.

Do you have your route mapped out yet? That will help me know what to suggest.

tmbbq.com listed a joint in Pecos that was suppose to be good. Between Leakey and Camp Wood, actually outside of Camp Wood headed towards Leakey is Two Fat Boys BBQ, a regular biker stop.

I've never eaten there but I remember this guy from BBQ pitmasters.

I had his q at the tmmbq fest this summer and it was terrible. I was also walking around with Ernest Cervantes from Burnt Bean Co. who was on the Pitmaster show with Buzzie and he said nobody liked his bbq. Once they cut the camera's off, everyone ate Ernest's food. That's just hearsay, but after eating his bbq, I believed it.

If you're going down 281 through Johnson City I really liked Ronnies Ice House. Only open for lunch.

I know we head out from Plano at 4 AM. We will stop in west for a quick pit stop and kolachies the zip down to Georgetown to hook up with 4 other guys about 7 - 7:30. From there one of them knows the fast way to Kerrville We plan to hook up with 5 more guys there at the home depot at 10 AM then follow the lead car around the loop. We end up back in Kerrville and head our own ways back home.

This will make it easy for you. If it were me, I would go to Opie's in Spicewood which isn't too far from Kerrville. I was most impressed by their bbq at the tmmbq fest this summer. Which ever you go with, take some pics and let us know how it was.

Tx Monthly has a BBQ app. It tells you the place closes to your location and if it's on their Top 50 list.

Are you heading thru Lometa? Good BBQ there at Ritters but has a restrictive schedule.

Mac & Ernies in Tarpley is worth a visit bit not a BBQ joint & not far from the Sisters.
