Hank's McKinney

Postby Boots » Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:59 am

Not a barbecue joint, but a very popular local country music venue for those who like old school or alt country music (you wouldn't like hear Taylor Swift playing there, but Miranda Lambert might do it). Place has been there for years, maybe a decade or more(?).

Anyhoo, the City is trying to shut it down for dozens of what it terms "code violations"...since I don't know the details, I couldn't speak to the merits of either side, but merelythought numerous local blog members might be familiar with Hank's and have an interest in the story.

Hanks is owned by one of my great high school buddies & his father. The city is being completely ridiculous. Just another example of why it's nearly impossible for Mom & Pop to be successful in entrepreneurship. Hank's is an awesome place with great food and entertainment for all types of people. Its a shame...

I do know for a fact it's great for live music, and one of the few places of its kind outside of say Love and War, that you can take the family, eat, and see live music.

With Hutchins BBQ still closed from their fire and this news about a potential closing of Hanks, not good for McKinney.

Some of my office staff went to Hanks last week. They said Hanks is contesting the code violation report and are not serving particular city employees. There's also a petition going around.

I had dinner tonight at Hanks to give my support. Hopefully with the recent firing of the McKinney police chief, they will leave Hanks alone....

Interesting, did not know that. Had met the Chief on ocassion over tge years, seemed a decent guy, seem to recall he came aboard after leaving the Dallas PD when Laura Miller decided political correctness and political patronage would be the standard at City Hall. Curious to see who the real force behind pressuring Hanks was, the Chief himself or the old guard politicos. Either they shut him down for hounding Hanks or he gave 'em the finger salute and said he wouldn't do it for them any more. Politics in this town has always had a real back alley quality to it, you'll have a real hard time ever finding out who pulls what string, like a lot of small towns.

Long story short we sued a business in Collin county in what was a "slam dunk" case of negligence that injured my wife. Our Dallas lawyer said that we do not want the case to go to court in Collin county as you can't even trust a jury there. Because it was a clear case the insurance settled with us in arbitration but I thought hmmmm don't want to get in trouble there....
