Hello Sir, Gotta ask. What’s with the winch on the side there?

Ric, i suspect it is to allow you to pull it up on a trailer if you want to move it or take it to a cookoff. Just my guess.

Re: Custom Heavy Duty pits
This is sure a puzzler. I see the cable going up and over two davit pulley wheels then maybe disappearing down into the rib box(?). I will submit a guess it is a raise/lower mechanism for the rib box grates.
Good looking heavy duty units evidently made with a lot of pride and effort. My only critique would be for that level of effort, would like to see someone take a grinder to the beads to smooth them down clean, mainly in front. Just me being a bit perfectionist. Being a finance guy, can well understand the cost/benefit and marginal utility implications of not doing so. The design looks like it would cook good.
Matt, wish you much success and a long career.

My apologies, I figured if you posted here you’d be checking back on your post. I’m not a moderator but I believe this forum is for discussion purposes. If your posting on here and “not checking often” why post at all
Looks like you build nice rigs and your close by, when the opportunity arises I may go by and take a look.
