Another newbie from WA
Live on the wet side, east of Seattle (although it it is hot (90+) and dry here now), and have a place in the central Cascades so we can get away from the issues that are Seattle. Being in close proximity to one of the largest apple growing regions in the world, I'm thinking I'll probably do a lot of smoking with apple wood...
Daughter and her family lived in Austin so we got to enjoy some of the best BBQ in the world. They just moved back up here and we got to drive the U-Haul. So, considering either the complete crap that pass for smokers up here, or the extreme pricing and shipping costs for anything even basic, I took advantage of the situation and picked up a Lyfe Tyme smoker. May not be the best, but a lot better than anything around here.
...being smart, it was the first thing in the truck Now to start the learning curve, had a cheapy stick burner before and really enjoyed it, just didn't last too long.

Welcome - I've got a shop built stick burner that is similar to the Lyfetime. Great smokerings; hard work tending.

If you haven't figured from the bit of time you spent lurking, I'm the resident eccentric.
Welcome aboard though. Lots of good people here, and even more knowledge. Definitely post your own cooks too though. We love pics.
Apple wood... Most folks say it's good for pork at least (tends to add a bit of sweetness). I've tried it on poultry too with decent results. Personally I prefer Mesquite, Hickory or Oak for beef though. Just my two cents.

Re: Another newbie from WA
Thanks for the welcome all. Hoping to get some "me" time so I can get to smoking :-) Sadly I have no control of my schedule
Did find out a buddy of mine and his FIL had helped take out a large cherry orchard and they have a few cords of cherry wood looking for places to turn into smoke....

Howdy Neighbor, the Lyfe Timer is a very servicible stick burner and should give you some good results. Lots of us “Sidecar Cowboys” here on the Forum, along with the Drummers and their cousins the CCC (Cheap Can Cookers), Pelletheads, Safe Crackers (vaulters), the Weberators, and of course, not to be left out or outdone, the Notorious E-G-G, aka the Egg Cult, aka the Emerald Eggers, led by their Eggsquisite swami, the one and only Knight of the Realm, Lord Egg of the Head or simply Egghead.
There’s even a real live Jedi, a mysterious shaman of ancient wisdom whose chamneling of science and the Force enables him to smoke meat in - wait for it - a cardboard box. Goes by the handle of Papa Tom, though rumor has it that in a galaxy far away, before the collapse of the dark Brinkmann Empire, he was a famous Jedi Knight named Obi Shish Kabobee.
Colorful place we got here, open a beer and stroll around the grounds and make yerself to home, just be mindful of yer footing, sometimes the residents leave a few well fertilized deposits around the grounds.
