New to Smoking

Hello from south east of Dallas!
I have always grilled (steak, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, etc.), but have left the BBQ and smoking to the professionals. However, a few weeks ago I stumbled upon a YouTube video showing a guy smoking some ribs low and slow using his Weber Kettle. Since I already had a Weber Kettle, I figured I would buy a cheap digital thermometer and give it a go. Several racks of ribs and pork butts later, I am hooked. I was going to start work on building a dedicated UDS for smoking, but was offered a free 60 gal vertical air compressor tank by my dad. So why not learn to weld while building my first smoker. I will post up the progress of my build in the custom build section.
Hope to learn much from this forum and share what I can!
