Howdy,
I'm a Tennessean (living in Houston) who met a gal from Uvalde.
Got engaged floating down the Frio River and married in less than six months.
To entice her to move to the Middle East, promised a river house in Concan.
Bribe accepted, after returning from five years in Middle East, kept my promise (cabin just completed)...
Said wife, just delivered our first child (a son)... Push gift delivered, and wife is happy.
What's left to make life complete??? A great bbq pit...
Suggestions?
I don't mind spending what I need to, but I am not out to impress. Not experienced but would enjoy learning and don't want to be limited. Don't see cooking for more than 10-12. Always wanted to smoke... I have looked at Lyfetyme (uvalde). Any others I should really look at?
Thanks!
Paul

Tennessee to Texas has historically been a natural migration. However, the Middle East is one heck of an unusual stopover…
Welcome Aboard and good luck in your pit hunt. I've been cooking on an old country pecos myself but considering making the jump to the next level.

welcome home neighbor. i'm also from Houston.
lone star grillz does a pretty good pit. I checked them out and they have the most competitive prices in the area (which isn't saying too much in my opinion). http://www.lonestargrillz.com/
however, I found a great pit for even cheaper in Alabama and made the drive up and back in a weekend to pick up my trailer from HBT Welding for less than half of what lone star was charging for their comparable 24x60 trailer pit with vertical cooker. and mine is a reverse flow smoker - something lone star would not consider making (if that's the setup you prefer for your rig) http://www.hbtwelding.com/ their welds aren't as pretty and their not quite as neat cuts as lone star or anyone else's but their rigs cook just as good and will last just as long if you're willing to make the trip to save some money. you'll get plenty of compliments and thumbs up on the way home if you do. make a vacation out of it and go visit Tennessee while you're gone.
just my $.02.

Uvalde hmmm, well I grew up near there,
There used to be a place called Uvalco there that sold good home made bbq pits
but the best is to make your own that allows you to get it built exactly to your own standards
Gensco was the pipe yard at the time....
Good luck and Welcome to the forum
waiting to see what you build or get and see it in action

Re: Tennessee to Texas (by way of the Middle East)
As requested, pictures of the cabin and little guy (sorry for the delay in responding- he's now 11 weeks - where does the time go?).
Cabin:

Gonna have to figure out how to post pics on the site from an ipad.
Also, ps. I checked out uvalco as suggested. Had nice stuff but ordered a lyfetyme camper for the cabin. Still looking for the right smoker.
Best,
Paul
