Now CASI is a real stickler on this and have heard even so much a jap seed will get your cup tossed. In rules we adopted for TCA we wanted to be a bit more tolerant and allow chunks of onyawns and peppas and such things but they must be chopped up fine and cooked into the brew. We basically leave it up to the head judge to decide whether there is enough stuff floating around in there to make a particular cup look so dissimilar to its brethrens that it could be considered a marked cup. Having played around with bean juice over the years I dont personally like it because it can give a gritty mouth feel...but if it has worked for you in he past far be it for me to say dont use it. On most of the CASI flyers I have seen lately they seem to have evolved or maybe devolved into "chili grind only"..meaning cubes is not allowed at most of its contests. Now maybe they do still have some contests which allow em..I dont follow em close enough to know for sure. With TCA we allow either grind or cubes or a combo of the two..with the rule being the cubes cant exceed 1/2" in sized. Sometimes the judges seem to want cubes and sometimes they seem to want grinded. Would say the grinds seem to generally hit in the money more often.

Well the results are in. City Style was the way to go.

We couldnt decide between bean/no beans, so I had 2 crock pots, one of each. For so many folks to claim to be Texans, who woudda thunk - I had twice as many request for beans!

The winner was a crazy batch called road kill, had chicken, beef, pork, sausage and was a thin brothy kind of soup with big chunks of tomato and beans. They had tiny little corn muffins to serve with thier chili, was a nice touch. :smokin:

SuckleBusters came in 3rd, missed second place by 1 point. We will get 'em again next year. BigWheel, thanks for the pointers. I couldnt help but thinkin the recipe you posted a few weeks ago might have taken the cake. 8)

Chili tastin is a very personal thang.

If I could take 3rd all the time... it would show something that was consistantly good to eat.
