A little spring project
We've had this little spot in the yard that is useless. The ground is sloping and too humid for the grass to grow properly. The robot mower struggles with the slope. Finally I figured out what to with it. We're building a little deck where I can have my smokers and grills. Maybe a little pergola, some lights and a good chair.
Will open up the veranda so I can go from the veranda down to the deck.
Best thing is I didn't have to buy much of the materials since most of it are leftover from other projects.
Next will be to do the floor. That will be next weeks work.

Nice work Joe.
Have y'all seen an increase in lumber prices lately?
Lumber prices as well as steel have seen a huge increase. Some items almost tripling in price over the last six months.

Strange you mentioned the lumber prices since I just read about it the news here. Lumber is up 33 percent since November. They also already warn about another 20 percent hike before June.
Wasn't too bad today. I had to buy a little 2 by 6 treated. I paid about 8.80 USD a yard.

Re: A little spring project
looks like a good project, I was going to mention to use treated wood where there is contract with the ground, termites really like the new wood. You can always treat it with spray not sure of the requirements for that in Norway, here EPA normally gets involved but we can still buy the chemicals and treat our own when we need to. Good luck on the project!

Thanks. We usually use treated wood outside. Mostly due to humidity and risk of rot.spacetrucker wrote:looks like a good project, I was going to mention to use treated wood where there is contract with the ground, termites really like the new wood. Treated wood here is dipped in a solution of copper salt and then put under high pressure. It used to be a mixture of copper, chrome and arsenic but that was forbidden many years ago.
Luckily we don't have termites in Norway so we don't need to worry about that.

Around here we have every kind of termite there is. The worst being the Fermosin. Those critters will take out a home in no time.

I had a similar situation and built a deck several years ago certainly no regrets.

Re: A little spring project
That's a great looking place. A lot bigger than the modest deck I build. Still good inspiration. Thanks for sharing.Papa Tom wrote:I had a similar situation and built a deck several years ago certainly no regrets.

Floor in place. Weather got cold so no more work until temperatures rise again.
