This is cool. The ship tunnel got a go ahead from the government today.
Some of you may remember the cruise ship in trouble in 2019. The tunnel will make it possible for pretty large ships to avoid the dangerous ocean area by going through this new tunnel.

This is a maybe better explanation of the concept

That's really cool.... although I had to watch the next-up video to fully understand what a ship tunnel is. The Danish G/F tells me about a spot where the two seas meet - fascinating stuff for sure.

Re: Awesome engineering - ship tunnel
I'l try to explain. Along our coast we have a lot of islands that makes it possible for ships to sail between the islands and the land. At this particular place it is not possible and the ships must go outside. Usually not a problem but here the sea is usually very rough and ships are regularly delayed due to safety issues. At this place icean can stretch far into the land. That's the fjords. The longest fjord stretches 127 miles in from the coast. At this place you have two almost parallel fjords. Instead for the ships to go along the coast where the sea can be very, very rough they sail in one of the fjords and go through the tunnel through the mountain and out in the other fjord to the coast. In that way they pass the problem area.txsmkmstr wrote:That's really cool.... although I had to watch the next-up video to fully understand what a ship tunnel is. I added another video in my original post that maybe better explain the concept.

Shoal waters are dangerous in small craft.
BE WELL, BUT NOT DONE
Hank: "Do you know how to jumpstart a man's heart with a downed power line?"
Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."

Absolutely. This area is dangerous for ships too. Some 600 people have gone down with their ship in the past here.Boots wrote:Shoal waters are dangerous in small craft.
