That’s quite terrifying, Joe.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone there.

Thanks.

Today they were able to bring in USAR personnel by foot to a wrecked house in one part of the pit. USAR is specially trained Urban SAR personnel. Our good neighbor Sweden has sent a similar team to assist. It's very dangerous since the ground changes between solid and liquid and new slides are still happening.

They found one dead person buried in the ruins today.

Today they got one of the tracked vehicles from the army that folds out a 30 yards long bridge that they may use. It weights 50 metric tons so they are holding back so far because they are afraid the weight will trigger new slides.

They also have a small hovercraft on standby in case it can be used.

Most search is still done by helicopter and drones with heat seeking equipment. Both the good old Sea King helicopters and the brand new ones that will replace the Sea Kings.

A little update. It's still a Rescue operation but hope is of course diminishing by the hour. Of the 10 missing 5 are now found dead. Last one found around 6 am today.

Rescuers are able to work on the ground but only by hand and handheld equipment. Dogs have marked spots they are working on. The work is difficult. The clay is special. At the moment it's hard as rock at the places they are working. We were told that they managed to fill a half bucket of clay in half an hour. Problem with this clay is that in can turn into liquid very fast if disturbed too much due to vibrations in the ground. That can trigger new large slides.

Biggest problem now for eventually survivors is the temperatures. It is now 18-19 Fahrenheit.

Rescuers was able to rescue around 30-40 people in the beginning. Many hoisted from the pit.

Thanks. Rescue operation ended yesterday. They have searched all pockets of air and with the temperatures in the area below -7 Fahrenheit it's no longer possible to find survivors.

10 persons died and so far 7 are found. 3 still missing.

Of the 3 missing is a mother and her 13 year old daughter. They woke up in the night together with the husband/father. They ran down the stairs but only the nother and daughter made it out. The house collapsed above him and he was trapped. The House slid 400 yards. A new slide shaked the house after a while and he found a way out and was later rescued by helicopter. His wife and daughter got buried in the mud and are not found. Watched an interview with the father on TV. Very heartbreaking.

Another family of three is among the dead. Husband, his pregnant wife and their 2 years old daughter.

Very tragic.
