End of summer 2020.

Postby Norway Joe » Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:02 pm

And so was the boat season over for this summer.

Pulled up the boat for storage today.

Engine secured against freezing during the winter. Same with the aggregate.

On Saturday I'll cover the boat and secure the freshwater systems against freezing.

Looking forward to the May 1st next year when the season starts again.ImageImageImage

Yes. We do wade fish here too. Mostly for sea trout and sea bass.

Thanks for the nice comments about the boat. We bought it in May so it was our first summer with it and it has worked very well. Have used it a lot and accumulated more than 125 hours on the engine during the summer.

Here are a few interior pictures from below, too.

That is a mighty fine cruiser Joe. I could get used to vacationing on her. :salut: :salut: :salut:
Is that a Volvo Penta gear drive I am seeing?

Yes it's a Penta gear drive. Impressive spotting. DPH with a D6-370 engine. Pushes her up to max speed 31 knots. Cruising comfortably around 22-23 knots. It's a heavy boat. Weighing 7.5 tons fully laden.

Sad day I’d say but like you said May 1st isn’t that far away.

Totally different weather situation here but when we had our boat I looked forward to the end of the summer season. We kept ours in a marina and I baited the slip out for crappie. All the pleasure boaters would disappear for a few months and it was nothing but a few fisherman bundled up looking for crappie and swapping lies. Those were some good times.

I have spent the better portion of my life around the water the twin props caught my eye. That drive gear is popular on beach shrimpers and crabbing boats as it is very reliable and stout.

Interesting. I thought crappie was a freshwater fish?

We also have the boat in a marina during the summer but have to remove it before October 1st. In oct9temps usually drops below 32f at least during the night so the boat must be winterized anyway.

They have a few spots that are kept ice free with air bubbles. It's no reason to have the boat in the water here during winter. The ocean usually freezes to ice for a few months so you can't go anywhere. Better bring the skates.

Yes, May comes fast. It's soon Christmas and then it's soon Easter, then you have May 1st.

Oh it is. We kept our boat at a local lake. We have very few freezes here so in the winter I’d just go tilt the outboard down into the water a few times over the winter when the temps warranted. It was a pontoon so we just let it float. Wasn’t any need to lift it or anything. I know those with inboards had to do a lot of winterization to prep.
