wok for open fire suggestion

Postby polgba » Fri Jul 10, 2020 12:47 am

Hey! I've never ordered dishes from online shops and I need your feedback if you have such experience.
I want to purchase a wok. Currently choosing from this page, any suggestions?
Also, I'll be glad if you advise me a good online shop for buying dishes. Thanks

I have two woks, a large one with wire handles that I use on my XL BGE and a small one that I use on my XL, Small, or Mini BGEs. I can close the dome on the XL BGE when using the large one but normally don’t.

I purchased the large one from the Ceramic Grill Store in Denton, TX about 15 years ago and the small one from the Wok Shop in San Francisco about 13-14 years ago.

I would think ordering the size you want off Amazon would be just as good. I would get one with a wooden handle and ensure you get a hammered steel one. Plan on seasoning the wok just as you would season a CI pan. Check it out here:

Would you consider a discada or plow disk? I had a lot of fun with one for a few years. Wound up selling it when I realized I wasn’t using it anymore since I bought my blackstones. We used it on campfires, my Webber kettle and propane burner. Bought it in Canton at first Monday trades days.

I would get a disco made from a plow disc as bsooner75 mentioned.
I build my own.

Or buy a firedisc.

Got to go with Boomer and KAM. Plow disc was my first thought. Besides it has that redneck cool factor working for it.

Is that considered a wok or a deep fryer? Or both? I like the side handles also.

That is a 22" plow disc with 1.5" sides. Not really deep frying but you can go as deep as 2.5: in the center. It does great with fajitas and stir fry too.

I'm a few days late to the discussion but have to agree - for open fire cooking consider a plow disc/disco for wok cooking. I got mine from Southwest Disk specifically because it was deep enough for wok cooking in addition to all the other things it's good at: migas, fajitas, smash burgers, jambalaya and on and on.
