Smoking with pellets on a Weber kettle

Postby Tom159 » Fri Jun 19, 2020 6:32 am

I’ve had to get some wood pellets as my smoking wood had run out. I can’t seem to get them right. I’ve tried to use them in a foil packet and a metal smoker box they they don’t seem to smoke very long. So resorted to adding a hand full every so often straight to the coals. However when I’m doing this during the cook it gives off thick black smoke for a few minutes then settles down to move smoke.

Will this affect the flavour ? Is there a better way to use them? Or is that normal?

I’ve tried to take a picture but doesn’t look as bad in the that
Thanks

Just my opinion but, I would think that if you're using something like Kingsford Briquettes, it would provide all the smoke you need. :dont:
Good Luck  :salut:

OH, I have bought regular Wood Chips and used them over Charcoal for extra smoke flavor but I never thought it was worth it so I quit. :dont:

Only time I’ve done pellets in my kettle (or in anything for that matter) was cold smoking cheese using an Amaze n tube. Other than that I always use wood chunks combined with charcoal (I prefer lump but use whatever you like).

As Sooner said, the Amaz-n tube works well.
There are smoke boxes that work well also.
