Buon Natale Italiani a Manicotti...

Postby Boots » Wed Dec 25, 2019 5:48 pm

Merry Christmas to all you fire eaters, deep well whole punchers, reformed farriers, proud veterans, death defying over the road truckerrs, and all us ordinary folk. And a raised glass to our good friends who have gone on before to prepare the way at the Great Cookoff in the Sky, including Bondo Bill, the Chileman, and all the others.

This year in McKinney we decided to take a different tack and bring the colors of Christmas to life through the Christmas meal. We are tight with a buck on most other things, but several years ago did lay out large Yankee dollars on the Ferrari of gas stoves, a Bertazzoni from Italy. It is literally the Ferrari of ovens, including being officially licensed to use a Ferrari red paint scheme (I bought it because it was fast company, my wife wanted it because it was red and went well in the kitchen). The thing is not big but it literally cuts cooking times on pretty much everything by a third; put another way from my college racing days, it hugs you in the curves and kicks you in A&& down the straights.

It seemed appropriate then for this year to have Italian Christmas dinner, made with one of my favorites: Manicotti from Jimmy’s in Dallas. We trick it up with all the ingredients you can see here and and I will build out the picture file as progress continues. My wife and son launched first with scratch made cherry crisp for dessert, and then I will rumble out of the pits in a fire breathing 12 cylinder Formula One pastamobile. Stay tuned, sports fans.

PS: By the way, for those who have not yet seen it, I give Ford Vs Ferrari the movie Boots’ Highest recommendation. Outside of a few certain swear words, it is not only a fantastic story, but a ballad of American pride, brotherhood, and triumph, and well worth the watching. One of only a few movies in the last 10 years that I can safely say the steep ticket price of the theater may actually have been a bargain.

And I see Boots has a J A Henckles knife set. Boots, I just had Santa bring me a nice 16 piece Wusthof classic forged knife set. Looking forward seeing them, much less use them when I get home.

Wow Boots I think I gained weight just by looking at those pictures. Fantastic.

Thanks for the movie tip as well. I’ve had that one on the list.

My only problem with this dish is my address book doesn’t have yours in it. Mighty fine food you got there.
