Hopefully they can get that figured out and get a handle on it.

Re: Norwegian Dog News
Sure hope they get this solved and stopped.
I'm sure they are searching to find out what all of these dogs had in common to assist in the diagnosis.
Also assuming that this is only happening to the dogs and no other animals ?????

Re: Norwegian Dog News
It's only dogs that are affected. It has now spread to almost entire country, but most cases in and around Oslo. Most of our eastern border is with Sweden, except up north with borders to Finland and Russia. They have no reported cases. That leads me to think it must have something to do with what the dogs eat, otherwise it wouldn't stop at the border, imho.

Re: Norwegian Dog News
So it's not Localized except for Norway? Hmmmmm
Food or Water sure sounds suspicious don't they ?
I'm surprised that autopsies haven't turned up anything yet.

Re: Norwegian Dog News
Autopsies show very damaged intestines. They have found the same bacteria in all of the dogs, but they don't know how they get the bacteria and why it's so aggressive or if it's the one that causes the disease. The bacteria is not uncommon but it normally doesn't cause this bad disease. The bacteria they suspect is called providencia alcalifaciens.

Yes. They are struggling. More sick dogs and autopsies but they can't find what causes the dogs to get so sick. Strange mood outside. No one are walking their dogs. Everybody stays in the garden staying away from other dogs.
So far about 250 dogs have been sick. Some survive if they come early to the veterinary but many, many dead.

Re: Norwegian Dog News
Maybe just bottled water for the Fonz?
Seems it would have to be either food borne or insect borne given how its scattered over the whole country, but if insect borne one would think it would impact the Swedes. Wonder if Humans can be carriers but not victims? Looking at the railway map for Norway and Sweden, seems there are few crossing points between the two and a large mountain range intervening between. I have heard that human carriers of disease can transmit same commonly in crowded places, and I am betting trains are a major transportation means for Norge.
Then there's the whole bird thing, they carry mites and fleas and all kinds of little parasites. But again, you'd think they'd fly over to Sweden too, unless they just don't like Swedes (?? ??).

Re: Norwegian Dog News
It's hard to say. Latest from the veterinary institute is that they are pretty sure they can eliminate diseases from ticks, tularemia, anthrax, algae poisoning.
Water outdoor is still a possibility, same is pet food, viruses or bacteria. They have found one specific bacteria in almost all the autopsied dogs, but they still don't know if it's the cause or how they eventually contracted it.
The hunting season starts now and many hunters will travel all over the country, bringing their hunting dogs with them. There has been some talk about not allowing the dogs. Some areas have banned it, but not all.

Re: Norwegian Dog News
Latest now is that there for 4 hours ago was reported a case in Denmark. Same symptoms with the dog dead in a short time. The dog or owner have not been in Norway. They don't know if it's the same thing yet.

Re: Norwegian Dog News
Maybe it’s fleas that come from mice and rats. They get on ships and they go places, that’s how the Black Plague spread.

Re: Norwegian Dog News
Thanks for the links. Interesting stuff. They have ruled out algae poisoning from tests.
We don't have leptospirosis in Norway so I don't think that's the thing either. 1 case reported between 1975 -1994
6 more sick dogs since yesterday. The police is also restricting their use of dogs.
