So I just got back home from a week in New Mexico and finished off in west TX. I had the opportunity to stop by Bbq Pit Masters “Texas Champion” JR Urias new restaurant. “Up in Smoke” Bbq in Midland, and let me tell you the BBQ is great. I got there a 10. Minutes after they opened and the line was already forming. I waited and got Brisket, Sausage, Ribs, and Pork Belly sides of pickled onions, pickles, Hatch mac n cheese and bbq beans. And they were all very very good, I especially liked the pork belly which was sliced like brisket and meals in your mouth tender.
After my meal, I was able to meet JR and he gave me a behind the scenes tour of his Myron Mixon smokers, stick burners and the kitchen. Had the opportunity to meet the staff, wife and kids too. even shared some of his personal rubs with me.
JR is a stand up guy and is first class in my book, if y’all Are ever in Midland on a Friday or Saturday, I would recommend you stop by Up In Smoke BBQ.
