Summer project - pool in the ground

Postby Norway Joe » Sat Apr 27, 2019 1:22 am

As some you of have seen we have started to dig up our garden. When we bought our place back in 2002 there was a halfway built pool in the ground. At that time we didn't want the pool so we filled the hole and laid grass over. For the last three years we've had an above pool in the garden. We didn't think it looked so nice so we figured we could dig up the old hole and put the pool in it.

We started this project in the Easter. We dug up the grass over the old hole and uncovered the Leca I filled the hole with in 2002.

Big job to remove the Leca so i thought how should we do that. This leca is great to use for filling around you houses basement groundwalls or behind other walls you might have built. We have a LOT of Leca and I have no place to put it. We can't come in to the garden with a excavator so it must be removed by hand. I therefore put out an add on something like a Craigslist. People have been running to our place filling large plastic bags with leca. After about a week the hole is about half full. Expecting the rest to go in a few days, or at least we have saved ourselves lot of work with the stuff that's been removed. It was about 30 cubic meter of leca in the ground.

I will post some pictures as the project progresses. Hopefully we get water in the pool again before the winter.

Notice the hedge at the end of the garden. It's about a 10 days between the first and the last pictures. See how green the hedge has been in that short time? I love the spring when everything comes to live after the winter.

Here's the progress so far:ImageImageImageImage

Thanks guys. When we had the pool above ground it bottomfreezed during winter so skating is possible. Thight turns necessary though. However we have a couple of small lakes 5 min. Walking distance from our house where we can go skating.

The picture below from is from a lake 20 min drive from our house where you can go skating. They control the ice so you know it's safe. The lake is several miles long so s great place for skating.

The picture is from the ski federation here. They also organize skating on a lot of lakes around us.Image

Naah. We've had a pool for some years. Been working great. A nice thing with our relatively cold climate is that the water in the pool doesn't get so warm. Less algae problem I think.

Don't think ours will be that fancy. This is what ours looked like before we tore it down last autumn.Image

Does Fonzie like the water?

Our dog will barely come outside when we are in the pool. I think he’s afraid he’ll get a bath :)

He loves water. Can't get enough of it. As soon as he's sees water I must be vigilant or I end up in the water with him.Image
