Joe, why is there a barrel buried in your back yard pool area?

Re: Summer project - pool in the ground
As you know I've had a lot of different people come here and grab some leca. I've hardly shoveled anything yet. The kids and I joked about hiding a scull in there. I can imagine seeing the face of those who found it. Would have been hilarious, but the police would be all over here I think.woodenvisions wrote:Nope, he's under Giants StadiumRambo wrote:It's Jimmy Hoffa

Greg; that barrel is from when we had a kerosene burner, which we threw out. This was before I got bitten by the bbq bug. The barrel is galvanized so I don't think its suitable for an uds.

Re: Summer project - pool in the ground
So instead of throwing it out with the burner you buried it?

Yes. Strict rules for throwing anything that's been used for storing oil products. Better to throw it there. I'll have to bring it to a return point now.

Re: Summer project - pool in the ground
Finally we could start building. Built most of the framework for the floor today.
I will build a wall against all the rocks and concrete at the end of the hole. The pool we have is a bit shorter than the original hole. That's ok. I don't have to transport away all the heavy stuff.
Fonzie is as always in the middle of the action. Giving a helping hand, or not.

Nice progress though.
In need of tonneau cover to secure my mobile pit. Any suggestions?

Beware a woman skilled with a Chop Saw!!!!
Joe, a question: Are there mosquitos in Norway? All that fresh water would lead one to think yes, but all that cold weather might make one think no. Inquiring minds are inquiring...

Re: Summer project - pool in the ground
Yes we do. They come out in the spring around may and are around until September I think. They thrive be have a lot of rain and they breed in ponds and lakes. None of them are carrying any diseases. If you go out in the forest and there is no wind, the air can be almost black, sometimes it's unbearable. Up in the north it's extreme and there they're big as a B52. See photo.
We have almost none around our house (or other bugs for that sake) , but 100 yards away they show up. We have a few wasps (no killer bees) that can be a bit annoying in September. We should also beware of ticks when out in high grass or vegetation. They can be a bit nasty since they can carry lyme disease.
