Summer project - pool in the ground

Not the best day today. Planned to spend the day installing the liner and finish assembling the pool. Temp was only 10 c. That made the liner stiff and hard to handle. It's best installed on a day with above 20c and wind still. That means probably only a couple of days during the summer. We have many warmer days during summer but very seldom without wind. When I tried to stretch out the bottom to remove some wrinkles the lining burst. Nothing more to do than wait for the new we had to order. With a new skimmer and a few other things it set us back with 1000 usd in unforeseen cost. Bad start on the day.

Started to build the framework for the floor around the pool, instead. Nothing more to do before the new lining appears.

sorry for the bad luck on the pool liner, here some pools have concrete as a liner others have fiberglass. I did not know about a rubber or latex liner. What will prevent it from being snagged or punctured by a fingernail or Fonzie's toe nail?

Fonzie is not allowed in the pool. Don't think we would get him up.

The liner is pretty durable after installation. Because of the water pressure it's so tight to the walls that it's hard to destroy. The one that ruptured has been in the pool for 7 years. Would have lasted many more years if we didn't move the pool.

Because of the winter this type of pool is easier than a concrete or fiberglass pool. Since it's flexible we don't need to drain it during winter. The whole pool freezes to the bottom.

A concrete pool with tiles must be drained and you still have the risk of tiles popping of because residual moisture behind the tiles freezes. They are also often lined with PVC liner here.

Fiberglass pools must also be drained or you risk cracking due to the ice.

looks like you have a lot of knowledge about the pool and it maintenance. (info I never considered) seldom freezes here more that a few hours at a time even then seldom be low the teens F.

Finally the weather has been with us and we're able to get some more progress.

New liner installed. Pump, filter and heat pump installed. Pool filled with water. Started to floor the deck around the pool.

Found a new tool that hides the screws. It places the screws at the sides of the board. It also gives correct distance between the boards and since the screws are diagonally screwed they also drag the board together when tightening. Just drop a screw in each metal tube on the tool and tighten with a special long bit. It's possible to get to the screw afterwards if you need to take up the board. There are systems that completely hides the screws but then you must dismantle the whole floor if you need to adjust. After a hard winter with lots of heavy snow adjustments are not uncommon.

A slide would be cool.

Yes, the silver cylinders are pilot holes. Just drop a screw in each hole and they are angled correctly into the board.

Regarding the screws there are several advantages by screwing the diagonally. By screwing diagonally from the edge you won't have screw holes on top of the board. Visually better I think. That also means you won't get any sharp wood pieces in your foot when walking barefoot. Lastly by srewing them diagonally it automatically pulls the board against the previous board when tightening and its it's easy to get an even distance between the boards. The tool has a spacer that goes between the boards when using. You can see the screw barely visible at the edge of the board, in the one picture.

Gotcha "Cool Tool"

Especially liking the lack of splintering - - - - most Pools around here have a mortar/gravel/rock surrounding area

Brings up a point - - - will the Lumber get dangerously "slick" when wet ?

No problem with the lumber getting slick when wet. That works well.

In Norway we use a lot of wood. Probably because our history of small farms. Each with it's own little forest, which gave the farmers easy access to building materials and also made them self sustained. They also sold the timber and floated it down wild rivers. There are som old scary films of the daredevils that did timberfloating.

We have a lot of wood. Lol.

Finally finished the deck around the pool. What's left is one more board around the pool to cover the ends in the circle and to connect the deck to the terrace.
