Under the knife again..

Next round of knee surgeries coming up starting on the 25th. Right one first. Nothing major, just cleaning out the cruddy cartilage and smoothing out the arthritic junk. Been a year and a couple months from the last one and it's progressed to needing cleanup again.. Sigh.. This whole "too young for replacement" junk is for the birds. Here's to hoping the surgeon doesn't sneeze or get the hiccups while he's in there!!

Hope it gives you some relief. In one breath they say you are to young for replacements and in the next they will tell you how much better you heal in your younger years…go figure

I feel for ya, had my interior cartilage removed at 16 (thank you high school football) had a total replacement at 58 and was bone on bone at that time, the doc said I should not have waited so long, was to the point pain meds didn't work anymore, been virtually pain free since I got over the replacement, took about 2 or 3 months, I was on the ortho floor and the last one to learn to walk again post surgery, but the doc did say he had never done any one worse. best to you hope your outcome is good!

That's one of the issues is that my knees interior condition isn't that extent except behind my kneecaps. My previous doc says he was having a difficult time grading the damage as grade 3 or 4 chondromalacia. Lol. He said since it was barely under 50% of the whole surface, he gave it 3. He said the worst of it was certainly 4. That doc isn't in network with my VA coverage so I'm seeing another one now. He seems pretty good so far, let's hope he is.

Exactly. Lol! He was mentioning that multiple surgeries will lead to excessive scar tissue, leading to loss in range of motion, leading to nothing good.

When you had the replacement done, do you feel that your recovery would have been easier if you done it sooner?

The doc said I would have certainly recovered quicker, if I had not waited so long; In the same statement he said his daddy died with knees like I had before he did my replacement. I know recovery was most painful but I worked really hard at it as I was told the harder you work in rehab the better the overall outcome will be... so far so good.
