Oak chunks from aquavit barrels

Postby Norway Joe » Wed Mar 13, 2019 1:33 pm

Got some scrap wood chunks from oak barrels filled with aquavit.

Aquavit is stored in barrels of oak and transported by ship from Norway across equator and back for aging and maturing.
I happen to share office with biggest aquavit producers in Norway. They have a small shop that repairs damaged barrels and I can get the scrap wood. The wood has a nice smell of oak and aquavit.

I will cut the chunks in half and try them in the smoker.

If I'm not mistaken someone posted something about using Aquavait Wood a while back. :dont:

That might have been me. One of my first posts in the forum.

At that time I only had access to shavings which burned to fast. I have more faith in this.

Heres a picture from that post.Image

I buy Jack Daniels whiskey barrel pellets for my CampChef pellet burner, they smell divine when they burn.

I've been told that If I still look at the ladies, but can't remember why, then there might be a problem.
