Refrigerator experts here?

Postby Copasspupil » Thu Feb 21, 2019 3:53 pm

So I bought a IDW-8 model and the manufacturer no longer makes the gasket for the door seal. Is there way to order or fix the slight leak I have in the seal? Could I buy a generic door seal and make my own? Or add something to the small area where it no longer seals? I've seen online where people use vaseline to fill in the gap or use a silicone -food grade- to fix the area? The refrig is for my dry aging meat locker...

Should be easy enough to cobble a fix. I had the same issue with my oven and bought some hi-temp silicone gasket goop in a tube. It's not the prettiest thing but it works well and vastly improved the cycle times of the oven.

If something like that doesn't suit you perhaps there are some old refrigerators in a junkyard you could cut a small strip off and glue it in place. At least you're not dealing with a high-heat factor so this should be very doable.

You might post up a picture or two so we can get a better ideas of the situation. Good luck.

I’ll post a pic in a few hours of the issue. Thanks for the suggestion.

I located a place that can make me a gasket for it.
