Another beautiful day
Had to share this. Moon is still up but the sun is rising and colors the mountains pink.
At the cabin.

I'm not sure where you mean. Those bare spots in the snow is the rock. No snow there because it's to steep.OldUsedParts wrote:I can almost smell that Fresh Clean Air - - - thanks for Sharing, Joe

Re: Another beautiful day
When I lived in Colorado we also got beautiful snow covered Mtns and lots of snowfall everywhere.
However, in the Spring the Snow and the Frozen Ground would melt in the Populated Areas creating a lot of Water that had no slope to cause it to run off, including the dirt roads and driveways. It could and did turn to muddy mush over night for several days and created messy situations where there was traffic. It didn't last long but it was bothersome for a while.
Folks called it the Spring Thaw or Spring Runoff.

Re: Another beautiful day
It seldom happens here because temperature normally doesn't rise very fast. In the spring we can have temperature above 0 (Celsius) during the day, but below during the night. Makes the snow melt away slowly. Mud roads may be a bit messy but not a problem.
Sometimes when there is still a lot of snow left in the mountains and the temp rises well above 0 for a long time we get problems. Rivers go over their borders and we get flood in the lower areas. Happens every 5-10 years.
We have a lot of hydro power (95% of our powerproduction) so a lot of the rivers and dams are regulated. They normally let out a lot of water before the spring melting so it's room for the water for the melting snow. Problems arise when it melts too fast because of unusual temperatures

Not so high. That cabin is at 1045 meters or 3428 feet. The mountains you see are between 1700 - 2300 meters. We don't have very high mountains. The highest is 2469 meters. The terrain can still be dramatic because of the cliffs and rugged terrain. Very often they drop straight into the ocean in the fjords. Very dramatic and beautiful. Tree border in Norway is around 900 meters.
A couple of illustrations. Most of this is only 40-50 miles behind the mountains on picture. The plateau with all the people is called the "preachers chair". It's where Tom Cruise hung outside in the last mission impossible film. All of these places are very popular tour goals. Takes 6-7 hours walk back and forth. Every year tourists from China or southern Europe must be rescued due to fatigue or poor equipment. Some try to walk this with flip flops on their feet!!

Re: Another beautiful day
Under that rock which is squeezed between the cliff and with two people on, it's 3000 feet straight down. Would never walked out there either.

Joe, i am sort of your 'Viking' connection on this message board
my last name is Krohn
my 2ndGrGranddad, Peter Krohn came to Galveston in 1853
he was a Danish sea captain from Schleswig-Holstein
our farm was on the road between Hamburg & Lubeck
he spent 20 years in the Danish merchant marine then immigrated to Galveston
he married a German girl from Mecklenburg, who he met when he got to Galveston
on my mother's side my family are the Rogers &the Burlesons who came to the colonies in the mid 18th century
Virginia- N.Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee- and finally Texas in 1831
they fought in and were a part of the Republic of Texas.
the Rogers, being Scots-Irish are also of Viking descent
my wife works for the oil&gas magazine- Upstream that is owned by NHST - Aftenposten
she works in the Houston office. the Norway folks love that her last name is Krohn
