Sweat'n with the Salsa
Picked up my Salsa Fixins yesterday at HEB and got to ginnin at 7am - - - two hours later, I finally had the Veggies sweat'n down and jugs ready. However, I under judged my "sterilized" pint jars by 3 - 1/2 So those will end up in my extra Frig out in the shop but they won't stay there long.
I guess my age is showing because 2 hrs standing over that cutting board and food processor really whooped my kazoo this time. Maybe I should bribe one of the grandkids next time with some free salsa for help Just joshing, they would do it for nothing, if they knew I needed help - -- NOW as to when they would be available (darned working class) is another story.
Also decided (age) not to roast them this time.

Well, Sailor Mam got me to thinking so I took a big ol bite outa the jar that only had a little in it and it was very good. I didn't have any Cilantro this time but it's still very nice.

OUP
cookin' with my "Uma" dad's mom
she did all her prep at the kitchen table
if it meant standing at the counter more than 5'mins
she was sittin' at the table
she had a good stack of lunchroom trays she used to move stuff around, and keep it organized
she trained me well. i even keep 3 trays in the back of my car.. for whatevers
Uma - Mary Bremmerman Krohn
at Burkburnett in 1920, when she and my granddad had started Krohn Drilling
she was the cook for the drilling crew the first 6 years
she had to dress like a 'hand' so she didn't get molested when she went to town for supplies
she cooked on a wood stove, on-in cast iron in the driller's shack
which all got taken apart and moved from well to well
she was also the best shot in the family- pistol, shotgun
and until the day she died, her S&W .22 revolver was loaded and sitting on the end table at the end of her sofa

Re: Sweat'n with the Salsa
A Depression Days Derrick Darling that anyone would be proud to have on their Family Tree.
Thanks for the Story, Capt'n, and for the tray tips - - - I used bowls but I need to move the food processor and cutting board to a sitting level for sure.
The Women of those days knew what work was and they also knew that they were responsible for their part. Those kind of Folks raised Good Chillins as seen
by many of us through the years.

Re: Sweat'n with the Salsa
not OUP's salsa...
but... to go with the story about our Uma
I come from a shooting/hunting family
I learned to dove hunt with my Uma's 20ga, that granddad bought her in 1930
it's a Sauer SxS 20ga- 28" full&full - kinda like shootin' a .22 at the doves
You Have Got to Be GOOD
when she died, my older cousin Doug inherited it
Doug was my "older brother"
my family suffers from heart disease. we all have heart attacks in our early 50s
granddad didn't make it. my uncle Hank didn't make it. Doug didn't make it
my Dad made it to 73 after open heart, but a stroke
I had mine at 53. but made it because of stents
I would much rather have Doug back
but Uma's 20ga got passed on to me....
I sure miss my cousin

Don't mind AT ALL, GENTS, I'm really liking that "Twice Barrel Shoot Gun" Capt'n - - - sorry to hear about the Heart Attack Gene, Pal, best to you and Family
OH and BTW, all the time I was fixing this Salsa I was thinking "Capt'n gonna dig me for not roasting" - - - the Bucket just couldn't handle it this time.
