Chopping blocks

Postby egghead » Tue Jan 15, 2019 8:19 pm

Knocked out a few more chopping blocks. Top right is made from drops/scraps of other blocks.

They are all amazing. That one made from scraps has a very cool look to it. You are very talented, thanks for sharing the photos with us.

Its almost a shame to put thin little slices in those Egghead, love the colors.
Do I see Oak, Walnut and Ebony in them ?
Maybe it's the lighting but I swear the one pic is with Purple heart ?

Just a little friendly advice. If you come across something called Wenge, Stay Clear of the Dust. It's a very dark and extremely dense and HARD wood that causes bad infections from any splinters that you may get. Also bad Rashes.
The dust has been know to cause people to " Trip " out resembling symptoms of people " Tripping on Mushrooms ".... Its known as ( Wenge Trip )
Causes hallucinations and respiratory problems.
Other than that, it's widely used for $$$$$$$$ flooring in upscale houses.

Only reason I mention this is because most don't know about it and I just wanna save you the headaches.

Again, really nice blocks

Thanks for heads up on wenge - I didn’t know.

So far I’m using maple, cherry, ash, mahogany, walnut, and apitong. All hard woods.

I’m an expert at making sawdust

Yeah man no problem.

All great woods for sure. Wow, Apitong is STRONG wood !!
Causes nasty splinter infections as well. Apitong I'm around daily, it's the # 1 preferred flooring for flatbed trailers. We sell it every day, expensive stuff as well. From what I'm told it's Apricot but never verified it.

Sawdust is good, Wenge dust is a Bad day lol. Bloodwood and Maple would make an absolutely gorgeous cutting board of you're ever looking for something on the exotic wood species side. Just know that cutting it is hard on cutting edges rather quickly and it WILL look like a crime scene afterwards, lol.
The dust is like Anti seize ..... One tiny dab turns into something that's all over and a bright deep red !

I am the Proud Owner of one of His Masterpieces and, not only is it a great conversation piece, I use it all the time. :wav:

Upon receiving this beauty I was told that ?if? I didn't use it and display pics with sloppy sauces and juices on it there would be Camo'd ATVs circling my block until I did. :dont: :laughing7:
