Cleaning the barrel of the 22 Cal. Rifle

Postby Norway Joe » Mon Jan 07, 2019 10:59 am

Getting ready to leave with my son to the Biathlon training. Had to brush out the barrel so it's as clean as possible. Little bit of assembly to do and of we go.

The rifle is a German Anschutz 22 Cal. Biathlon rifle. Weight 3.7 kg pluss the shoulder strap.Image

Nice Piece, Joe, my youngest Son is an avid shooter and collector and I've got to share that pic with him if you don't mind ? :dont:

I used to watch the Winter Olympics and the Biathlon was always a favorite to see. Good Luck to you both  :salut:

Very nice rifle I have several 22s. My favorite is the Ild Henry lever action. That is one smooth rifle. Good luck to your son.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

Share as much as you want.

My absolute uncolored objective opinion :laughing7: is that Biathlon is the most exciting winter sports. Nothing in the race is decided before the last shot is fired. And not always then.

Thanks. No competition today. Just practice.

There are many nice 22s. What is special with this is the snow flaps in front of diopter and the front. You can see it on my picture and in the gif below. The bolt action is also special. There is no bolt to push up or down. You just pull it straight back with you index finger and straight in with your thumb. In that way you minimize the movement in the rifle and body between the shots. Like this:Image

Here are a few pictures from today.

They shoot at 50 meter on two different targets. One or two standing and one or two laying down. Depending on distance. 5 shots per series.

The target when laying down is 1.77 inch diameter and for standing it's 4.52.

That doesn't sound to hard, but when your heartbeat is around 180 per minute it's very hard. Typical time for one series is 30-35 seconds from they are on the rubber mat until finished 5 shots. Including taking the rifle of your back, getting in position.

A normal distance is 4 shootings (2 laying down and two standing). Distance 12.42 miles. Race time around 45 - 50 minutes depending on track and snow conditions.
In the pictures you can also see the two different targets.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Thank you for sharing the rifle pics. I will Share with my son who likes to target shoot but we have never had the chance to snow ski. Best of luck on the slopes and range.

As I near 70 yrs, there's many things I miss, but the eyesight of my youth is high on the list.
I used to shoot long range rifle with open sights but now I can barely read the list of ingredients on my vitamin bottle!
Use em while you got em..

That looks like a great event. I saw a bit of this in the Winter Olympics
