Firewood off Craigslist?@!
So I bought some post oak off CL today and I am pretty sure I got taken. I paid for 1/2 cord and when I told him I had a 4x8 rack plus another 4x4 rack. He began telling me of some state law in Texas in how firewood must be stacked criss cross and I am guessing measured? My bullshit meter was about half way up. But I really didn't feel like fighting and wanted the wood. Correct me if I am wrong but 3 rows of 16" 4' x 8' equals a cord. Something tells me he sold me 1/2 a face cord. *note* first time I have ever bought wood but I know the measurements of a cord.

Hey Tram - welcome to the forum. What part of the state are you in? Maybe some of the members can recommend a reliable source. CL is hit or miss.

He charged me $225 delivered and stacked. I am in the Schertz\Selma area, if anyone knows of a reputable place to buy, it would be much appreciated.

Welcome, Tram. I'm afraid you overpaid. That's about $100 worth of wood in my neighborhood - maybe $125 delivered and stacked.

I am with the others. Regrettably, you were "had".
My wood guy charges $85 for a 1/4 cord (or 1/2 a face cord) which it appears is what you received.

I pay big city prices up here but I get 1/4 cord delivered and stacked for $125. This looks to me as well like the amount you received.

Re: Firewood off Craigslist?@!
The problem in Austin (and maybe near you as well) is that the MANY BBQ joints buy up all the seasoned post oak and the independent sellers know they can push the green stuff off on the backyard/home smoker.
Been there done that, and several times.
Buy a moisture meter and don't let them unload a stick until you measure water content.
Lacking measuring tools, the wood should look old and dry.
