Tent vs Snow

Postby Professor Bunky » Fri Nov 16, 2018 11:58 am

We had our first snow of the season yesterday. It was supposed to be less than an inch of the frozen stuff, followed by rain - so not a big deal.

However, it snowed a bit longer than expected and it was the very wet & heavy stuff (temps were well above freezing). The result was that the replacement cover on my main BBQ Tent (which was never a proper fit anyway), gave up the ghost from the weight of the snow. Oh well. I only expected this cheap cover to last one season. Now that the sun is out and the white stuff has mostly melted away it's time to clean it up & put the frame away.

I feel your pain PB. I’ve been through an EZ up a year for the last 3. Not snow for us as I mainly put them up in the summer for shade but rain and wind have done mine in. The last one the wind left in a mangled mess.

Ouh yea, I know that pain. After having a few get blown around, I though I was smart by weighing down each corner so it’s wouldn’t get blown away. Well the rains came and down she went just like yours!

Is there a reason a shed won’t hold up?

These tents seem to be designed only for benign weather conditions, although I've been able to keep some going for a few seasons. Still, the fabric covering is fairly fragile and after a couple of years use it will start ripping easily.

Since I use the tent for shelter when BBQ'ing, I need it open on all sides. I move the rigs into a shed or garage for off-season storage.

Preferably "open" on the opposite side of your normal prevailing wind direction :laughing7: :D :salut:
