Several weeks ago I bought a rather large container of Fresh Okra mainly because the Wiffy loves fried Okra.
Well, after frying a rather large amount, I still had quite a bit left so I Googled, blanched, ziplocked and froze.
I really had not hope that this would be a total success until I defrosted and fried on bag today.
To my surprise, even tho they were slightly slimy and limp before slicing and frying, they fried up crispy and delicious.
"WE" both agreed that it was the best that I've ever done and she even said it was the best she'd "ever" had.
If I may quote a dear departed friend: "Even an old blind Hawg will find an acorn now and then"

I've never had okra but I have a recipe for cooking it, Indian style. I will post a pic later. I'm downstairs with 3 of the grandkids ATM. They stayed last night.

Got no chips on this table so I can't even begin to pretend I know Jack about Okra other than what I've seen on here.
Can someone " splain " to me what it tastes like or the consistency of it ?
If it's like Eggplant, I'm OUT like Elvis leaving the building :)

Flavor... I'll let somebody who is more of a fan try to describe it.
As far as freezing it... My grandparents grew a whole row of Okra plants in their garden. 90% of it ended up zip locked or vacuum sealed and frozen. Always seemed to turn out OK. Blanching it SEEMS counter-intuitive on the surface (water expands when frozen, so you think it'd ruin the okra) but judging from the rave reviews OUP got, I'd say he's on the right track there.

Poco Pal, as far as taste goes, it just tastes like fried Okra - - - I can't think of anything to compare it to Nothing like egg plant, however
RiMShot, I was skeptical also but pleasantly surprised, as was the Wiffy - - - "happy Wife, happy Life"
